Affiliations

Ribble Valley CRC is affiliated to British Cycling, Cycling UK, Cycling Time Trials, North Lancashire Time Trials Association and Lancs & Lakes SPOCO time trials.  These affiliations give the club third party insurance to cover all our activities and allow us to have a say in the way cycling is organised and promoted nationally.  They also enable club members to take part in competitions organised by these bodies.

British Cycling

British Cycling is the internationally recognised governing body of cycle sport in the UK.  BC is the nation’s largest cycling organisation and the national governing body for cyclesport.  Their mission in life is to deliver international sporting success, grow and effectively govern cyclesport and inspire and support people to cycle regularly.

Cycling Time Trials (CTT)

Cycling Time Trials (CTT) is the National Governing Body for time trials in England and Wales.

About 1200 open events are advertised in their handbook this year.  To ride in any of them you need to be a member of a club affiliated to Cycling Time Trials. There are at least that number again of “Club Events” (which are generally not advertised) and if you approach the club promoting one of them you could get a ride on a “come and try it” basis.

North Lancashire Time Trials Association (NLTTA)

North Lancashire Time Trials Association (NLTTA) was formed in 1928 to promote a racing calendar for the member clubs in the North Lancashire area.

2015 was a great year for the Association with some fantastic rides achieved by their members.  Records galore were broken, the stand out being Steve Irwin’s 30mph plus ride in 49 minutes and 30 seconds in the Lancaster 25 mile time trial on Levens, the fastest ever on an L course (course located in CTT North District) by a local rider.  Aided and abetted by rival and friend Richard Bideau, the complexion of Lancashire time trialling was changed forever.

Lancs & Lakes SPOCO time trials

Lancs & Lakes SpoCo aims to encourage the use of “Sporting” courses for cycle Time Trials as an alternative to the use of traffic-laden dual-carriageway courses.  It does this by means of collating and publishing league tables for selected events, mainly in Cumbria and Lancashire, but also including neighbouring areas.

The events selected are existing events held under CTT rules by existing clubs. They are selected on the basis of the nature of the course used and are held between February and July.
