Ribble Valley Cycling Club on Social Media

As well as keeping members up to date with what is happening at the Ribble Valley Cycling Club through the website, we also publish regular updates to Social Media channels, such as Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.

We have a Facebook group too, on which our members (and a few select guests) who use Facebook can keep abreast of what is happening at the club, ask other members questions and also tell people what interesting things are happening. The Facebook group is a “closed group”, so that we can keep it mainly to club members only and make sure that only things that are suitable for the group are posted.

We encourage and expect lively discussion amongst our members and welcome diverse views, but insulting or abusive personal remarks are unacceptable. You are reminded that posts are moderated and abusive comments may be removed and contributors suspended from the closed group.

GPS tracking

For those of you who like to track your rides using GPS devices, such as Garmin cycling computers we also have a Strava group, Garmin connect group and a Club Ride with GPS account, where members can keep an eye on how many miles they are getting in compared to other users. You can also who in the club is getting the best times on various local segments.

Strava Group

Strava is a community of athletes from all over the world. Strava lets you experience what they call social fitness – connecting and competing with each other via mobile and online apps. Strava lets you track your rides and runs via your iPhone, Android or dedicated GPS device and helps you analyze and quantify your performance. Strava provides motivation and camaraderie, and helps us prove that we’re out there doing what we love to do.

We have a Strava Club, to which give exclusive access to our club members

Garmin Connect Group

Garmin Connect is an online training tool to store, analyse and share all your fitness activities. Join millions of users who run, bike, swim and hike. Garmin Connect works seamlessly with your Garmin device and supports all your fitness goals.

A number of the club’s members use Garmin devices and track their rides on Garmin connect. To see those activities, why not have a look at the Ribble Valley CRC Garmin connect group.

Club Ride with GPS account

Ride With GPS is a bike route mapping tool for cyclists, runners or anyone wanting an easy yet powerful fitness route planning experience. Map your ride along bike paths, streets and trails using our easy online route planner. They offer tools to analyze cycling performance, including graphs of heart rate, cadence, watts (power output from a power meter), speed and elevation gain. It works with all Garmin Edge bike computers, Forerunner fitness devices and any GPS unit that can export a TCX or GPX file.

We have also recently (in February 2016) set up a Club account with Ride with GPS.  They have developed and introduced this feature onto their website quite recently.  Our Club’s Ride with GPS account will allow our members to access some the Premium features the website offers from their own “STARTER” account, which is free to set up.  We are also building up a collection of Club routes of all types that you will be able to download and write to your own GPS devices to help you find your way.

The video below helps explain how you’ll be able to use Ride with GPS as a member of our club.

We aim to start inviting our members to the Ride with GPS Club very soon, in line with the annual membership renewals in March and April 2016.
