Peter Winstone

I’ve always loved cycling, having riden from an early age in both road and BMX.  I joined Kirkby CC as a junior and enjoyed time trialling and Criteriums.  When at Winstanley College, I managed to get through to the North West ESCA Crits finals after a messy crash on the first lap, which I managed to avoid and we managed to get a surprise win in the team competition.
After that I switched to Rugby Union but in the 2000’s I started cycling again and joined RVCRC who made me feel most welcome.  I got the bug for 100 mile Sportives, completing amongst others The Spud Riley Polka Dot Challenge, Bowland Beast and The Cheshire Cat.  I then moved back into Time Trialling in the PETTS Series for a couple of years before cycling took a back seat again due to family and business commitments.
Lockdown came along with being furloughed and I got back into cycling again doing 380 miles during the month of April and then much to my amazement over a 1000 miles in June.  With a good level of fitness building I rejoined the Club & decided to go for the club’s Gold Tourist Award award and enjoyed selecting and completing the 3 required rides.  My racing days are well behind me but I enjoy being a member of the club and riding with the Wednesday night and Sunday morning group rides.  It’s a great way to keep fit and socialise with like minded people.
